Dr. T. M. Manjunath
Dr. T. M. Manjunath, a renowned entomologist, has made valuable contributions in the areas of biological pest control, integrated pest management (IPM) and agricultural biotechnology. A Ph.D. in agricultural entomology from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (UASB), he joined Monsanto Company, a global leader in agricultural biotechnology, in January 1998 and served as the Director (R&D) of its Monsanto Research Center, Bangalore, until he superannuated in June 2004. Prior to this, he worked in various capacities as a scientist / executive at Commonwealth Institute of Biological Control from 1962-1976, at UASB from 1976-1981 and at Bio-Control Research Laboratories of Pest Control (India) Limited (PCI) from 1981-1997. He was one of the Vice Presidents at PCI before he joined Monsanto. Dr. Manjunath is presently engaged as an independent consultant in agri-biotechnology and IPM. His other interests include cultural activities, social service and promotion of education.
Dr. B. N. Vishwanath
Dr. B. N. Vishwanath is a well-known scientist, organic farming expert, entrepreneur and a patron of performing arts. A Ph.D. (1978) from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, he served as the Head of the Department of Entomology and Professor of Entomology at College of Agriculture, Dharwad and Bangalore, respectively, before taking voluntary retirement in 1985 to plough his own course that took him into organic farming, bio-pesticide industry, film making and theatre. A much sought after consultant in organic farming, particularly terrace vegetable gardening, he is actively involved in promotion of organic farming through the Association for Promotion of Organic Farming, Bangalore. Dr. Vishwanath also served as a Member, Board of Regents, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, between 2001-2004.
Dr. P. G. Chengappa
Dr. P. G. Chengappa is currently the Vice-chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He is a leading agricultural economist and has a Ph. D. in Agricultural Economics from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He has obtained his M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics from UAS, Bangalore. He was international consultant at the International Food Policy Research Institute at its South Asia office, New Delhi. Prior to this, Dr. Chengappa served as Director of Instruction (Agri) and also as Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Marketing, at UAS, Bangalore. He had also worked as a scientist at International Plant Genetic Resource Institute, New Delhi; ICRISAT, Hyderabad; International Rice Research Institute, Philippines; and DTZ, Germany. He has been involved in several international and national research projects in the area of agricultural commodity marketing systems and agricultural trade liberalization.
Dr. A. R. V. Kumar
Dr. A. R. V. Kumar is presently working as Associate Professor at UAS, Bangalore. A graduate from the 1977 batch of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, he obtained his M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees from the same University. Dr. Kumar who is Assistant Professor at the University loves interacting with farmers, students and the general public to educate them more about insects and their ways! He promotes eco-friendly technologies of pest management, ‘Neem’ being his favorite.
Shridhar V. Paradkar
Sri. Shridhar V. Paradkar is presently heading the marketing initiatives at Al Kabeer Exports Ltd., a leading & internationally reputed frozen food products & export company in India. An alumnus of Agricultural College, UAS, Bangalore, he has pursued further studies in the areas of Management & Business Administration, specializing in Marketing. With the wide experience gained in the management of Agri-business as well as Transportation & Logistics over the last two decades, he is keen to contribute to agriculture and rural development. A trainer of national repute from Jaycees, he is involved in a lot of youth development and organization activities under the Indian Jaycees banner. Mr. Shridhar has also been actively associated with various social & cultural organizations, serving them in various leadership capacities.
Dr. R. Jayanthi
Dr. R. Jayanthi, a graduate from 1979 batch of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, obtained PhD from National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow in the year 2000. She is presently working as Associate Professor, Department of Horticulture at UASB. Her specialization is in Floriculture and Landscaping.
Dr. K. Chandrashekara
Dr. K. Chandrashekara is presently working as Associate Professor at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. A graduate from the 1979 batch of the UASB, obtained his Ph.D. in IISc. Dr. Chandrashekara claimes to have chased insects in the Western Ghats (popularly called biodiversity studies!), learnt management strategies from social wasps, poked into elephant and tiger dung to catch beetles, used butterflies to fascinate kids and taught graduate students how corporate squabbles and art prices can be explained by Darwinian theory. He is very keen to learn things from any source that has the potential to change the perception and enhance the respect for life on earth.
P. S. Srikantha Murthy
Sri. P. S. Srikantha Murthy obtained his MSc., in Agriculture Economics from UAS-B in 1979 and currently works as Assistant Professor in the University. Prior to this, he served as Agriculture Field Officer in Bank of Maharashtra and as Rural Development Officer in Indian Bank. An avid lover of theater engages himself self in training students in theater. He is the staff advisor for student activities in the college. Coaches the under graduate students for the national level ‘Junior Research Fellow’, P.G. entrance exam conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Involved in organizing literary and cultural activities in the college. Serves as Associate Editor of college magazine.
Dr. A. Mohan Rao
Dr. A. Mohan Rao is a Ph.D. in Plant breeding & genetics from Acharya M G Ranga Agriculture University, Hyderabad. Presently works as Assistant Professor in Genetics department of UAS, Bangalore. Specializes in conventional molecular plant breeding. Works with students to bring in overall personality development to meet new challenges. His passion is writing editorials.
M. P. Harish Kumar
Sri. M. P. Harish Kumar is an alumnus of UAS, Bangalore, from the 1984 Agriculture batch. He currently works with Development Support Initiatives, a consultative group on development. He carries with him over seventeen years of cumulative experience in teaching, marketing and development.
Dr. N. Sumithramma
Dr. N. Sumithramma, a Ph. D. (1998) in Agricultural Entomology from UAS, Bangalore, is currently working as an Assistant Director of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, at Chikballapur, Bangalore. She is committed to work for the development of rural community. Dr. Sumithramma is an ardent lover of butterflies and was perhaps one of the first to study the butterflies of Bangalore. She, as a student along with another student in the same department, Ms. N.V. Kamala, was instrumental in starting a small voluntary fund to help the Post Graduate students of the Department of Entomology.
